Ben Kimpel bio out on Amazon

The Porter Fund Prize was established in honor of Ben Kimpel, the beloved Chairman of the English Department at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he taught from 1952 until his death in 1983. Kimpel asked that the prize for Arkansas writers be named for his mother, Gladys Crane Kimpel Porter.

The Porter Fund

The Porter Fund was founded in 1984 by novelist Jack Butler and novelist and lawyer Phil McMath to honor Dr. Ben Kimpel. Kimpel was noted professor of English at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. The Porter Fund prize is named in honor of Kimpel’s mother, Gladys Crane Kimpel Porter. The annual prize of $5,000 is given to an Arkansas writer of merit and has been awarded to over 35 poets, novelists, non-fiction writers and playwrights.
